I REALLY like my BigOven recipe software. I actually use and love it, and I am happy to endorse it to other cooks. This is my review of this great software that I recommend for anyone who likes to stay organized.

There are way more features than I talk about here – scroll down below my review to see information direct from the company about all the different things it can do. These are the functions I use most and that really make a difference for me, so it’s what I’m going to talk about in my review.

Recipe Organizer

BigOven lets you create “Recipe Boxes” to organize your recipes, as well as assign tags. So when you need to find something, it’s very easy. You can search by ingredient, title or tag, or you can just browse through the Recipe Boxes. Although it comes with some starter boxes, it is super simple to create your own.

If you later decide you want to change things around, it’s quick and easy. You can move or copy recipes between boxes, rename boxes or create new ones. Super easy. I’ve rearranged mine several times and it was a cinch. I’ve tried several recipe organizer software programs in the past and this one makes this function the easiest, by far.

Recipe Nutrition Analysis

I love the recipe nutritional analysis function! You’d be surprised how much little changes can change a recipe! The software comes loaded with data on tons of ingredients from the USDA Nutrition Database, plus you can add your own ingredients as needed. So it’s simple to see the breakdown of your recipe, including calories, fat, sodium, fiber, etc. Great for dieting or just healthy eating.

It works both ways too – sometimes, you’re amazed at how a small change in the recipe can really lower calories or fat. And sometimes, you’ll be shocked to see that a major change you thought would really lower calories or fat, barely does at all! It really helps you make decisions about where and how to change your recipes for best nutritional results AND the best taste!

Summary

Bottom line? I love this software. I previously used MasterCook, but I find BigOven much more user friendly and intuitive to use. And, it has an active and accessible author if any problems crop up. I’ve emailed him questions or problems before and been answered almost immediately. He really cares about this software and is dedicated to making it better all the time.

Feel free to contact me or post comments below if you have any questions about how this software has worked for me. I am happy to discuss it with y’all!
